Here it is.
It was painful, slow. I suffered. It tormented me. This is as Good As It's Gonna Get
For those of you who care to know - my final analysis: Crocheted a border on to the edge so that it laid flatter. I then carefully based the opening closed. Then I based the zipper in place. I tore the sewing machine apart, cleaned it well, oiled it, put it back together. I sewed on the sweater side. Then I unbased and opened the zipper and sewed it again closer to the zipper on the zipper side. I can live with it.
Life with Denim may now move on.

And it looks great! Your patience has certainly paid off. I guarantee that when you tell folks you made this, they'll be humbled and astounded. Onward to sleevage!
Looks wonderful! I'd admire your perseverence. I've avoided all zipper patterns thus far in my knitting life. I think I'd be less afraid of steeks.
